Cars in Germany's City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Officers mentioned they were alerted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.

An important representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
